On this link we would like to introduce to you our local partners in India.

The “Bildungshilfe Nordost-Indien" is recently working with two Salesian priests in the province of Dibrugarh.

Father Jonas Kerketta

Fr. Jonas was born on 1st March 1953, at Amdanga village, then under Tezpur Parish, but now falls under the Parish of Misamari.

His mother Mrs Catherin Surin died in a boat accident when he was still a suckling. His father died when he was three years old. His two elder sisters and he were brought up by his grandfather, late Mr. Elias Kerketta. Upto K.G. class he studied in Govt. school in the nearby Assamese village.

From class 1 to class 5 he studied in Don Bosco School, Tezpur, in Assamese medium. From class 6 to 12 he studied in Savio Juniorate, Shillong. From 1974 to 1975 he was in the Salesian Novitiate in Upper Shillong, where he made his first Religious Profession on 24th May 1975.

From 1975 to 1978 he did his philosophical and B.A. studies in Salesian College, Sonada, Darjeling.

He did six months of Rejency in Savio Juniorate Shillong. Then one year and a half in Don Bosco, Kohima. In August 1980 he began Theological Studies in Sacred Heart Th. College, Shillong. He was ordained a priest on January 29th 1984 at Tezpur by Bp. Robert Kerketta Sdb. He returned to Sacred Heart College, Shillong and completed Masters degree in Theology in May 1987. From May 1987 to January 1988 he was Asst. Headmaster in Don Bosco School, Wokha, Nagaland.

 

From January 1988 to 1992 he worked as Asst. Novice Master in the New Salesian Novitiate at Imphal.

From January 1992 till July 1993 he was Asst. Headmaster at Don Bosco School, Imphal.

From January 1997 to July 2000 he was Vice Provincial of Dimapur Province.

Since September 2006 he is Rector in DBS, Dibrugarh.

 

Father Bimal Lakra

Born to late Mr. Ignatius Lakra and late Mrs. Christina Baxla, Father Bimal is the youngest of four children.  He left his native place of Jharkhand in the year 1969 and came as an aspirant  at the young age of 12. He did his priestly studies in Shillong and was ordained a priest in 1987. Besides his priestly studies he also is a qualified development worker, with MA Phil. degree in Social Work.

 Immediately after his ordination Fr. Bimal began the development wing of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Dimapur Province. He was the founder Director of AIDA organization, which formulates, implements, monitors and evaluates all the development works carried out by the Salesians of Don Bosco in the region of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Upper Assam from 1987 upto 1995. These 9 years of association with AIDA gave him ample opportunity to come in direct contact with the life situation of the people of North East. He was transferred to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School at Kohima as its Rector and Principal from 1996 upto 1998. In the year 1999 he was transferred to a mission area amongst the tea garden labourers in the Parish of Doom Dooma. Here too he started an NGO called AGUA ( Agency for Growth and Upliftment of All) to bring about an improvement in the life situation of tea garden labour communities.

Thus the past 21 years of his priestly life have been spent as a missionary away from his homeland of Jharkhand but working amongst his own tribe the Adivasis. He has carried out many developmental activities in the area of education, social upliftment and  economic self sufficiency. He considers the expansion of Marengo College Hostel very urgent and a most needed project to sustain the process of development and improvement of their living condition.
